A new cultural experience is arriving on Vietnam’s railway tracks. On August 19, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VRC) will officially introduce The Hanoi Train — a unique heritage-inspired journey also known as the Hanoi – Five City Gates Train. Timed to launch ahead of Vietnam’s National Day celebrations, this project blends historical charm with contemporary comfort, aiming to offer travelers an immersive look at Hanoi’s rich past.

The refurbished train features 10 cars, including five specially themed passenger coaches. Each coach draws inspiration from one of Hanoi’s iconic ancient gates — O Quan Chuong, O Cau Den, O Dong Mac, O Cau Giay, and O Cho Dua. Inside, passengers will find a warm, nostalgic atmosphere shaped by wood-paneled interiors, ambient lighting, and traditional decorative motifs. Expansive windows allow uninterrupted views of the northern landscape as the train moves through the city and its outskirts.

Departing from Hanoi Station, the train makes stops at Long Bien, Gia Lam, Yen Vien, and Tu Son (in Bac Ninh). Three round trips are scheduled daily — at 8:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 8:30 PM — offering travelers flexibility to enjoy both daylight scenery and evening ambiance.
As the finishing touches are applied to seven newly renovated double-decker coaches, VRC is positioning The Hanoi Train as a new symbol of cultural tourism, aimed at both domestic and international visitors seeking a deeper connection with the capital’s storied past.
